Recipe Updates

I am often experimenting with recipes to try to make them healthier and easier. I have made some updates on some of my existing recipes that I thought might interest you. All of the pictures are links to the recipe with the updated notes included.

1. Since I discovered that substituting half of the butter with unsweetened applesauce worked so well in my oatmeal raisin biscuits, I decided to try it in my traditional whole-wheat drop biscuits and they turned out super! This substitute made no alteration in the taste. Leaving in half of the butter gave them that same great buttery taste.

2. I was in a hurry to get dinner on the table so I decided to try making cheesy salsa tuna burgers with quick oats and skip the grinding of the oats step. They turned out perfectly like they always do. I will definitely do this every time. Talk about a quickly prepared supper! Cheesy salsa tuna burgers are such a treat, if you haven't tried them yet, I hope you will. To enjoy them to the fullest, you have to eat them on a sandwich slim and my favorite is with a little extra salsa, a thick tomato slice and some crunchy lettuce. Yum!

3, 4, and 5. I updated the recipes for special chicken, pork gravy over rice, and the dipping sauce for Mexican egg rolls to give the option of using strained, plain, nonfat yogurt in place of sour cream. This is a great option to bump up the nutrition in these dishes without sacrificing any taste.
